What to do in case of clean injury ?

First, rinse off the wound with clean water, then, soap both hands with liquid soap. Put a bandage (or a clean towel), and keep the hand elevated. Contact an emergency centre as soon as possible.

What to do in case of burn ?

In case of a thermal or chemical burn, put the limb under current water for about 15 minutes. Do not apply any unknown product on the burn. Put a bandage (or a clean towel). If the burned part is significant, call `15` (telephone number of medical emergencies in France), if it is not so significant, contact an emergency centre

What to do in case of complete amputation ?

DO NOT PLACE THE SECTIONED FRAGMENTS IN DIRECT CONTACT WITH ICE.

Follow these indications carefully :

1 - Gather all the sectioned fragments in a water proof container and place them in a sealed plastic bag.
2 - Close the bag and place it in a box with non synthetic ice. The sealed bag should remain on the iced water like a float.
3 - Cover the amputated extremity with a compression bandage. Elevate the hand. Do not make a tourniquet.
4 - Do not get rid of any fragments which may look destroyed. The surgeon might utilise some components (nerves, bones, tendons) which are intact ; this is the "finger bank" principle"

What to do in case of incomplete amputation ?

Cover the injured part with a compression bandage. Place a plastic bag with water and ice around the hand.
Immobilise the hand on a splint.
Contact an emergency centre as soon as possible.

What to do in case of probable fracture ?

Place the hand on a solid surface. For example, put the wrist on a piece of hard cardboard paper, and place a bandage around them.
Elevate the hand or the upper extremity.
Have an X ray made , and contact a medical service on duty.

What to do in case of bite ?

First, rinse off the injury under running water, then soap both hands with liquid soap. Put a bandage (or a clean towel), and keep the hand elevated. Contact and emergency service as soon as possible.

If it is a pet, try to identify or find out where the animal comes from, in order to determine the necessary vaccines to apply to the injured person, at the Pasteur Centre
(Vaccine Production Centre in France).


Do's and don'ts, particularly in the case of small children ?
